The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball team crushed rival Mansfield 58-21 on Friday, March 11.

"I was extremely happy with the way our team played tonight from start to finish the starters and bench players played phenomenal," said head coach Jason Greenfield. "Our defensive intensity was extremely good and our sharing of the basketball was outstanding. It was our best complete game of the season."

The Hornets were on fire early on as Joseph Grab and Billy Lechler combined for 20 of the team's 21 first quarter points. Wellsboro held Mansfield to just 2 in the quarter to give themselves a comfortable lead. Mansfield finally got some shots to fall in the second quarter as they scored 11 points in the quarter, but the Hornets scored 13 to take a 34-13 lead at halftime.

Wellsboro finished the game on a 24-8 run and held Mansfield to just one point in the fourth quarter.

Grab finished with a game-high 17 points and Lechler backed him up with 14 to lead Wellsboro. Jacob Trowbridge scored 8 and Alex Burrell added 6.

The Hornets won a close B game, 24-23. Will Poirier led the way with 8 points and Nathan Heath had 6.
