In a rematch of last year's Loyalsock Tip-Off Tournament, and this spring's Class AAA District championship game, the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team was no match for Loyalsock in their opening game.

"We unfortunately had too many mistakes to deafest a team of Loyalsock's caliber tonight," said head coach Chase Kriner. "We understand what we must improve on and the goal hasn't changed. We will continue to improve and learn with a lot of new pieces moving forward."

The Lancers started out with a 17-9 lead after the first quarter then outscored the Hornets 22-14 to lead 39-23 at halftime. Loyalsock used another 20-point third quarter to put even more distance between them and Wellsboro and finally outscored them 19-5 in the final 8 minutes to send the Hornets home with their first loss of the season.

Aiden Gair led all scorers with 27 points and Gerald Ross scored 23.

Sophomore Joseph Grab led Wellsboro with 18 points, senior Andrew Brelo scored 8 points, senior Brandyn Tuttle had 6, senior Hunter Brown and junior Andrew Larson had 3 points each, and senior Cam Tennis chipped in with two points. Senior Tanner Button added two assists and 2 steals, senior Holden Kennedy had 2 assists, and Tuttle added 7 rebounds.

Wellsboro will now take on Whitehall later tonight in the consolation game back at Loyalsock.
