The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams both scored wins over Canton for the second time this season on Thursday, December 5.

In the boys game the Hornets defeated Canton 45-14. Wellsboro jumped out to an early 16-7 lead after the first quarter and led 27-11 at halftime and never looked back.

"It was nice to see the boys get off to a fast start tonight after sluggish first quarters the past few games", head coach Kyle Smith said. "When we play with confidence and aggression, we are capable of quality performances like we had tonight. Having 8 different players score was also nice to see and our free throw percentage has improved drastically since the beginning of the season as well. I'm excited to see us compete these last few weeks of the season."

Hayes Campbell paced the hornets with 15 points, Julian Mann had 10 points, Watson Feil, Ian Hoose, and Carter Knowlton all scored 4 points, Mitchell Lechler and Caden Smith each scored 3 points and Tyler Youells added 2 points.

Wellsboro also won the B game, 33-26. Micah Vickery scored a game-high 12 points, Mitchell Lechler scored 11 points, Micaiah Fitch scored 8 points and E.J. Keck added points for the Hornets.

In the girls game the young Lady Hornets won a commanding 21-6 game. Maddie Mascho had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 8 steals, Emily Morris (3 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist), Chloe Brandenburg (4 rebounds), Paige Logsdon (5 rebounds, 2 steals), and Hannah Gilmour (3 rebounds) each added 2 points. Hannalee Cleveland chipped in with 1 point, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal while Olivia Chilson added 3 rebounds and 1 steal. Emily Pierce added 1 and Emily Richardson added 2 rebounds.

"We had a slow start at the beginning of the game, but had many positives including 26 rebounds, making many of our free throws, and playing good team defense," commented head coach Darrell Morris.

Wellsboro also won the B game, 30-15. Chloe Brandenburg and Paige Logsdon each had 8 points, Lexi Fillmore had 6 points, while Cassi Mitchell, Emily Pierce, Raegan Bourrett, and Abby Owlett chipped in with 2 points each.

Both teams are off until next Tuesday, December 10 when they host Williamson.
